The wolf (Canis lupus) is a highly social carnivorous mammal found across the Northern Hemisphere in forests, grasslands, and tundra. Known for its intelligence and teamwork, wolves live and hunt in family groups called packs, typically consisting of 6-10 individuals led by an alpha pair.

The alpha female typically gives birth to 4-6 cubs which are born blind and helpless in a den . The entire pack participates in rearing the young. Packs are highly nurturing, ensuring the cubs' survival by protecting and teaching them until they are strong enough to contribute to the pack’s activities.

I particularly like the expression on this wolf. All too often, they are depicted as menacing creatures mainly as a result of fairy tales such as Snow White. We are in a situation where it could be argued, we need wolves back in the UK because of the excessive deer population. I wanted to show the caring nature of the wolf in this picture and the colour tones are calming too.

The original artwork was approximately A1 size and was watercolour paint with coloured pencils.

Giclée prints are printed digitally at a high resolution onto archival watercolour paper using pigment based inks which increases their lightfastness.
