The jaguar (Panthera onca) is the largest wild cat in the Americas and the third largest globally, after tigers and lions. It is easily recognized by its robust build, golden-yellow coat adorned with distinctive black rosettes, and a short, powerful tail. Jaguars are apex predators and are found primarily in the rainforests of Central and South America, with the Amazon basin being their stronghold.
I had not intended to produce a green background. Sometimes initial mistakes can be a great way to experience and create something different - in this instance, it's rather mystical. The original reference picture showed the jaguar's coat, reflecting the green of its surroundings and this provided a vibrancy compared to leaving it as the plain paper. So I was really pleased with the outcome of this.
This artwork was painted on Strathmore mixed media 500 series paper (190gsm).
Dimensions: 40cm (w) x 50cm (h). This is unframed.
